What is a GPU and what’s its role in Artificial Intelligence?


I am a bit confused with this concept, can anyone help me out to understand this.

A GPU is a Graphics processing unit (link). It differs from a CPU (link) in that it can execute a lot of parallel code really efficiently.

In Artificial intelligence (mostly in machine learning) it can be quite advantageous to do the training of a neural network in parallel. For this you can use GPUs, so the training time is reduced significantly.
