List of The CW affiliates (table)

The following is a list of affiliates of The CW, which launched September 18, 2006, following the merger of The WB and UPN networks, both of which began broadcasting in January 1995.

The CW is based around 16 former WB affiliates owned by Tribune Media (which was a joint owner of The WB along with Time Warner) and 11 UPN affiliates owned by that network's owner, CBS. The largest of the additional affiliate groups are: Pappas Telecasting Companies, with ten affiliates (six broadcast stations, one digital and three local cable channels), and Sinclair Broadcast Group, which affiliated eight of its stations to The CW after a reported two month dispute over reverse compensation to the network (and later added a ninth, which previously carried MyNetworkTV).

The CW covers just more than 95 percent of television homes in the United States. The network has over-the-air coverage (analog, low-power, or digital signals) in all of the top 100 Nielsen-ranked markets. The remaining markets are covered either over-the-air or through cable-only channels (including those served by The CW Plus) or affiliates in neighboring markets.

KNVA in Austin, Texas owned by LIN Television and KWKB in Iowa City, Iowa owned by KM Communications were the only two stations at The CW's launch that carried both The CW as a primary and MyNetworkTV as a secondary affiliation (KNVA became a sole CW affiliate on October 21, 2009, while KWKB would drop MyNetworkTV and become a sole CW affiliate in September 2011); currently, locally-owned WKTC in Columbia, South Carolina (which added The CW in March 2014), Fox Television Stations-owned WPWR-TV in Chicago, Illinois (which joined The CW in September 2016) and Raycom Media-owned WUAB in Cleveland, Ohio (which added The CW in July 2018) carry both networks on their primary channel. In addition, WTVY in Dothan, Alabama, a CBS affiliate owned by Gray Television, now carries MyNetworkTV on a digital subchannel that was previously affiliated with UPN, and also added a third digital subchannel for the CW. WTOK-TV in Meridian, Mississippi, also owned by Gray, added two more digital subchannels for the CW and MyNetworkTV, in addition to ABC on its main channel and Fox on another subchannel. Also, from October 2010 until November 2014, WLMT in Memphis, Tennessee, owned by the Nexstar Media Group, was the only station in the country carrying The CW as its primary affiliation and MyNetworkTV on a digital subchannel.

As of September 1, 2018, eight CW Plus affiliates will remain that will be cable-only, with six media markets served by out-of-market affiliates through cable and satellite services.

Notes

  • 1 In areas of the United States where CW programming is not available, WDCW (Washington) is available to subscribers of DirecTV on channel 385.
  • 2 These stations carry the CW on a digital subchannel, which is available to viewers of digital television. Most of these digital subchannels should also be available in their respective markets through local cable television providers.
  • 3 Cable channel already operational, but not yet broadcasting via a digital subchannel.
  • 4 KCWE is available to cable subscribers in parts of the St. Joseph market, as are the other Kansas City network affiliates.
  • 5 KXVO is available to DirecTV subscribers in the St. Joseph market.
  • 6 KNPN-LD3 formerly operated as cable-only "WBJO" from its 1998 sign-on as part of The WB 100+ Station Group until News-Press & Gazette Company took over operational and advertising control of the channel and added it to KNPN's third digital subchannel in June 2012. A high definition feed of the digital subchannel's CW Plus programming began to be carried on Suddenlink upon the station's launch.
  • 7 Local affiliate previously operated as a cable-only channel as part of The WB 100+ Station Group.
  • 8 Former CW affiliate WJZY switched its affiliation to Fox on July 1, 2013 as Fox Television Stations completed its purchase of the station and its sister MyNetworkTV affiliate WMYT-TV on April 17. The CW officially named longtime Fox affiliate WCCB as its replacement affiliate in the Charlotte market on April 18; its affiliation moved to that station on the same day as WJZY's switch to Fox. In the interim, Fox Television Stations maintained the CW affiliation on WJZY.
  • 9 On September 1, 2016, WGN-TV became an independent station when the CW affiliation moved to WPWR.[2][3]
  • 10 Current secondary affiliation.
  • 11 Previously broadcast on the station's main subchannel.
  • 12 Formerly broadcast on WWAY's second subchannel until January 1, 2016, when it moved to its third subchannel to make room for a new CBS subchannel.
  • 13 WUCW is available to DirecTV subscribers in the Mankato market
  • 14 In Mankato, MN Consolidated Communications carries cable only "KWYE" for the CW, whereas Spectrum carries KTTC-DT2 from Rochester, MN.
